DPR win roof renewal contract with Carl Stuart
DPR Roofing has recently won a contract to complete a full roof renewal and structural repairs at well know Wakefield based company Carl Stuart Bespoke Tailors. The job, when completed will be one of the largest single works the team have completed in their 27 year history.
The tailors, with large headquarters in Ossett, required urgent attention on their roof which was falling into a poor state of repair and leading to problems for the workforce below. They are one of the only fully bespoke tailoring companies in the UK and have recently celebrated 50 years in business (in 2013) with many of their team having been with the company for well over 35 years, providing excellent craftsmanship.
The DPR surveying team carried out an extensive roof survey on the site looking at the whole area as well as specific parts of trouble which the client had noted on structural issues. After assessing the areas, uncovering where the problems were and the number of issues, it was agreed between both parties that a full roof renew, with bespoke structural repairs, would be the most effective both in terms of roof stability and cost.
This is the second large contract DPR has won for similar works in the recent months as the team continue to expand in the commercial roofing industry. Already this year, we have finished works at Carr Mills student accommodation in Huddersfield, completed a second job for Amazon, this time at their Milton Keynes office where they preferred to choose ourselves over a local contractor, and at Huddersfield Bradford International Airport.
If you would like to know more about the types of commercial roofing services DPR can offer clients across Yorkshire, including gutter repairs and clearance, please do not hesitate to contact one of our team today.
Why loft conversions are becoming more popular
Here at DPR we have been at the very forefront of providing roofing services to the Yorkshire and Huddersfield areas. The United Kingdom actually boasts some of the smallest homes in the entirety of Europe so it is important to increase the space in which we can live in and this is the main reason as to why loft conversions are becoming more popular. Not only can a loft conversion add to the sense of space within your home but there are several other benefits.
Loft conversions have proven to be one of the best ways that you can increase your properties value. Expert analysis has shown that converting your loft can actually yield a return of the cost by up to 200% meaning that a loft conversion should be a no brainer, eradicating any worries of cost due to the fact that it will not improve your standard of living in your home but it will also prove to be a worthwhile investment.
Investing in a loft conversion can also prevent any unneeded moving costs. When homeowners need an extra bedroom the traditional way is to relocate to another property but with a loft conversion you will be able to stay in the same area which in turn will save you a lot of money. Not only will a loft conversion save you a lot of money but it will save you a lot of time as switching houses will also require a lot of planning for new routes to work, the changing of postal addresses and could potentially increase the duration of the school run.
Opening up the loft to be used for other than the traditional purpose of storage can also provide the homeowner with great health benefits by exposing them to the natural light which wouldn’t have shone through if a loft conversion wasn’t completed. The window of the loft can also provide the owner of the property with new views of the Yorkshire and Huddersfield area which wouldn’t have been accessible before.
If you would like more information on loft conversions or any other roofing services then please do not hesitate to give DPR a call on: 01484 866 772.
Yearly Roofing Contract agreed with Wesco Aircraft
DPR has recently partnered with Wesco Aircraft in Clayton West to provide them with yearly ongoing roofing support.
The company, which is responsible for making aircraft parts for all aeroplanes in the world, have large roofed premises at their UK Headquarters in Clayton West and with the roof ensuring the parts are made in a controlled environment, any leaks or damage can have serious consequences.
After providing roofing repair services for the company for a number of years, it was agreed that a contract which included 24/7 emergency call out would be beneficial to the company. Also included in the contract is a yearly gutter clearance, as well as checks on the roofing system whilst we are on site, other onsite visits and recommendations on suggested works at the site.
DPR provide roofing support for a range of different businesses across the Yorkshire region. If you are worried about the state of your roof, or believe you have called out roofers too often in the past year, a roofing contract with ourselves could well put your mind at ease and save you on roofing repair costs.
For more information, or to have one of our roofing team come and survey your roof, please do not hesitate to contact one of our qualified staff members.
Speaking about the new commercial roofing contract Managing Director Darren Rickett said: “DPR is delighted to be able to provide ongoing roofing support for Wesco Aircraft. There is no plane in the world that does not have at least one part that came from them ensuring they are able to continue to offer the best service they can without the worry of their roof & gutters letting them down.”
Roofing terms explained
Builders, roofers and other professionals in the construction industry will use technical words to describe the works they are carrying out. To many, these are things we do not hear on a regular basis, so at DPR we have listed some of the most common technical words and their meanings, so you can understand what works are being carried out properly:
Batten: This is the strip of wood over roof underlay that roof tiles or slates are fastened to.
Closer: A brick that been cut in half lengthways.
Course: AKA as a course of tiles’, this is a single horizontal row of tiles or slate.
Dry Fix: A method of fastening tiles or slates using ‘dry’ mechanical fixing rather than, or as well, as traditional ‘wet’ mortar. New rules came out about this method a year or so ago.
Flashing: A metal sheet that waterproofs junctions, such as between a wall and a roof.
Gable: This translates into the triangular upper part of a wall that supports a pitched roof.
Jamb: Proper word for the side of an opening in a wall that is for a door or a window
Joist: The right terminology to describe a beam (a long, sturdy piece of squared timber or metal) supporting a floor or ceiling.
Party wall: A wall that separates properties, such as in terraced houses, often carries up to the loft.
Purlin: A horizontal timber or steel beam halfway up a roof that gives extra support.
Ridge: Refers to the top of the roof, usually covered with special ‘ridge tiles’.
So now you know. These are just some of the roofing terms used across the UK to describe parts of your roof. If you however speak to a roofer and do not understand what he is saying, ask him to explain using terms you do understand. At DPR roofing we will not bombard you with all complex words, but instead show you with imagery the problems we have found.
Should you have a problem with your roof and require a comprehensive survey, please do not hesitate to contact one of our roofing team today.

New Works at Amazon
DPR has been commissioned to carry out works at a second amazon site, this time in Milton Keynes, after our impressive roofing works at their large ‘Amazon Pantry’ site in Doncaster.
The extensive roofing works at the new Amazon - Milton Keynes depot will see our teams stay over for many nights and use our wide array of skills. Amazon were so pleased with our recent works and therefore have asked us to travel in favour of using a local company in the area.
A survey has recently been conducted and the project will include:
• Power lift access equipment
• Night work inside whilst the active site is on night closure
• Fitting a vast array of roof outlets and extraction systems
• Roof sheet extenders
• Internal fit out to roof linings
Our previous project for Amazon was in Doncaster and included giving advice and works on their old roof ventilation system. In total, our roofers spent two weeks installing 25 new fan installations for ventilation added as well as roof snorkels which allow for the safe use of cables/pipes from internal sources.
Should you be any sized company and require works on your roof, DPR have the expertise and knowledge. Although we are based in Yorkshire and work mainly in the Yorkshire region, we can travel for many jobs should we be your preferred choice. DPR provide ongoing support for Dogs Trust
DPR Roofing is proud to be providing ongoing roofing support for the Dogs Trust site in Huddersfield, where hundreds of dogs are cared for and rehomed each year. The pleasing aspect of The Dogs Trust is that a dog is never put to sleep unless necessary due to suffering/injury.
Everyone at DPR understands the great work that the Trust do in providing for dogs who require rehoming and all the team loving going to the site, although it can be quite emotional. Our MD Darren Rickett was surveying there only last week and had a tour of the ‘seemingly lonely’ faced dogs in their trendy cubicles, some with armchairs for comfort. He said he wished he could have them all at his farm home as he is a huge pet lover.
In the past few months we have carried out a number of roof repair jobs on site, including a new flat roof on a section of the building where they keep the kennels. Because of the great work they do, we always try and get to the site within just a few hours to ensure they can continue to provide unbelievable levels of shelter and care to these unwanted dogs.
As a result, the trust and ourselves have now signed into an agreement where they can call us out whenever they have a problem and we will be onsite as soon as possible. This is on a preferential rate to allow the Trust to continue to offer such a high quality level of care for the dogs, and whilst on a call out we will also recommend any immediate works we feel may need doing before they get too serious.
The Dogs Trust are just one of many local organisations who DPR are working with on a contract basis. From educational establishments, through to manufacturing giants and coffee makers, our team are able to offer expert levels of roofing care. All our team are qualified to the highest of standards and we continue to develop our team on a daily basis.
If you are based in Yorkshire and feel that your company could benefit from regular roofing checks on site, maintenance or call out services, please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of our team today.
New works at Concord Apartments in Huddersfield City Centre
DPR’s Huddersfield roofing team have been renewing GRP balcony roofs at Concord Apartments in Huddersfield during the past few weeks.
The iconic apartment block, famed for its use of primary colours on every balcony, required a number of the roofs to be repaired after the wind and rain had taken their toll on the building. There was also damage to some of the balconies trims that required immediate repair and the property manager was delighted we could provide such a quick service.
We were recommended for the works having carried out gutter works on the site for a number of years, and such was the quality of our works, and our speed of response, we were asked to renew a number of the balconies. The management have also used us on all their other sites across Yorkshire that they control.
Our team had to work quickly, as well as considerately, as many of the tenants go to work in the day. This meant we had to coordinate the works with the site manager to ensure we were always on time. Much to their delight we were able to work around the schedule and produce superb finishes on all the balconies.
If you are the owner of a site that requires continued maintenance or ongoing repair works, please do not hesitate to contact one of our team. We work closely with a number of housing associations and companies to provide ongoing services to allow them to offer continued excellence on site.

Prime Minister flies in during DPR works
The DPR team were lucky enough to see Prime Minister David Cameron last week as they started work on the aircraft hangars at Huddersfield/Bradford Airport.
The site manager had contracted DPR to carry out roofing maintenance works and whilst the team were there, a private RAF jet carrying Cameron landed at the airport right at their side. Cameron was visiting the region for an important meeting before flying back to London later in the day. Whilst the DPR team were working they waved at Cameron who waved back before heading off to his event.
Working at Huddersfield Bradford International Airport is just one of many companies of which DPR are now providing roofing maintenance works for. In the past month we have also secured an ongoing roofing maintenance programme with Yorkshire Water contractors , IETG/40seven who provide data loggers and underground utility services for Yorkshire Water.
If you, like these companies, would like the reassurances of a contracted roofing company to ensure you building is prepared for the harshest of weather conditions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our team today.
New Contract with 40Seven

The company have developed state of the art technology to help record the data on pollution, drainage and other construction based information to allow companies to work within environmental guidelines and produce high end quality throughout any works.
The new contract comes off the back of DPR carrying out regularly works at the IETG building in Huddersfield during the past year.
