17% rise in homes being built in the UK compared to last year

According to recent reports, over 14,000 new homes were registered to be built in April, which is an increase of over 17% compared to the same time last year. These stats are from NHBC’s latest registration statistics and also show that more private sector houses have been registered in this period.

In more good news, completions were also up 4% this year compared to last year as well.

In the rolling quarter of February to April, over 40,000 houses were registered which is very similar to the amount of homes built last year. Key to this however, and for DPR, is that the region of Yorkshire & Humberside saw an 18% increase for registrations.

As everyone knows, every home requires a solid and well installed roof and DPR have been helping local builders across the region for many years.

NHBC Chief Executive Mike Quinton was very optimistic about the figures and said: “April’s new home figures show that the industry enjoyed a successful month, with registration numbers well ahead of this time last year.

“For the rolling quarter, new home registration volumes are virtually identical, demonstrating further consolidation on last year’s levels.

“During these periods of sustained industry activity and production, NHBC remains committed to ensuring the highest possible quality in the standards of the UK’s new homes.”

Roofing works begins with Barclays Bank UK

DPR Ltd are pleased to announce we are now supplying roofing services for Barclays Bank UK across the whole of England.

The works, which includes both planned and reactive maintenance on all of their buildings, has come from working with other established companies and DPR Roofing possessing high quality accreditations and experience with similar agreements.

DPR Roofing carry out similar works for a number of major organisations such as Huddersfield Bradford International Airport
buildings and have just recently struck a good working relationship with global online marketplace Amazon.co.uk at their distribution centres across the whole of the UK, fitting roof ventilation cowls for their huge hangar sized depots.

The first job for Barclays Bank UK is at a site in Cheshire which required a full inspection of their roof and maintenance carried out at the building after the harsh winter weather had taken its toll causing leaks and some dangerously loose roof parts.

The works with Barclays Bank UK will allow DPR to showcase our wide range of commercial roofing skills and will see us working on their buildings throughout the year, helping them prevent roofing problems at a number of their sites. We are very pleased that Barclays Bank UK have trusted DPR Ltd to be a supplier of roofing services.

Should you have any number of buildings across the UK which require a central roofing contract for both planned and reactive maintenance, please do not hesitate to give DPR roofing a call. We can tailor a plan for your specific needs, which can include emergency call out at any time should you require, and ensure that your business is able to function at all times without the fear of a roofing problem closing your business for a period of days.

DPR … trusted by some of the worlds leading companies!

DPR invest in portable man anchor system

With health and safety important to everyone at DPR, we have just invested in a new portable man anchor system for the company. The easy put together system safeguards our employees when they are working on the edge of buildings, where there is a serious risk of falling and no edge protection provided by the client, such as a man safe system or guard rails.

The equipment, which is used to ensure the safety of roofers when working near to the roof edge, adds to our range of other high class safety equipment and highlights our commitment to the safe working environment for our team.

The portable man anchor is specifically designed to provide short term safety for low frequency operations at locations where a guard rail is not provided. This is often very beneficial for maintenance on flat roofs!

There are many other advantages for the system, with ease of assembly and a compact frame two of the most popular advantages. This allows our team to take it to site when required and at all times work to the highest of health and safety requirements, set out by the associated accreditor boards. It should also increase our speed at being able to repair a problematic roof or carry out safe maintenance without having to set up or get added rails to the edge of the roof.

The anchor system causes no damage to the roof itself and can be used on just about all roof types, and even in wet weather (which occurs often in Yorkshire). The system is always be used as a fall restraint system and in conjunction with fixed length lanyard to prevent users reaching the edge.

DPR’s investment in another product shows our commitment to providing the best, and most safe, roofing services across the Yorkshire region. Whether we are working on a domestic project or on a large commercial building, we apply the same level of professionalism at all times.

Should you require any roofing works on your property, please call Yorkshire’s leading roofing company today.

More works scheduled for Amazon

After a second successful job at one of Amazons distribution centres, this time in Milton Keynes, DPR Ltd have been invited to carry out similar works on a site in Hemel Hempstead, also in Buckinghamshire.

The works will see the team replace several roof cowls which are used to provide good levels of ventilation and keep the internal conditions of the building at safe levels. A cowl is a hood-shaped covering used to increase the draft of a chimney and prevent backflow plus obviously stop water entry.

Like with the Milton Keynes job, our roofing team will be hotel accomodated and once again, Amazon have chosen our company instead of favouring a local roofing provider due to our success on the 2 previous contracts.

You can find details on our works we completed in Milton Keynes and Doncaster by clicking on the following article links.

We currently work closely with many local and national businesses on a range of different roofing projects, from one-off roof repairs through to ongoing roof maintenance contracts and many more jobs in-between. You can find examples of this in our case studies and news sections of our website.

The importance of looking after your roof and how your roof can look after you

Like many homeowners and landlords around the Huddersfield and Yorkshire area, here at DPR we understand how important it is to ensure that the roofs on our homes are in the best condition possible.

However, like many, often homeowners don’t realise the severity of what an issue with your roof can cause, but the consequences are real and very severe. Not only can escalated issues cost a lot of money when consulting professional roofers to sort the issue, but your general health and wellbeing can also be at risk, along with all of your valuables.

Nature is the biggest pest when it comes to roof issues. Every roof in the Yorkshire and Huddersfield area is subject to a battering due to the temperamental weather we are subject to as a nation. Due to this fact alone, it is important to stop said weather protruding further and causing more damage. Any water damage caused to your roof and the foundations of your home can actually contribute to the timber in your loft being eroded, potentially causing a collapse of your roof.

Not only can the structure of your home be damaged by the weather, but other improtant things too. The electrical appliances in your property are also extremely prone to damage which could cause harm to those nearby if a problem isn’t addressed. The electrical infrastructure of your home can also be damaged, such as the wires running along your floorboards. These repairs can be costly if you ignore a problem with your roof.

Allowing an issue with your roof to escalate can also allow intruders into your property. It’s been reported on several occasions that birds and bats have found their way into the various roofs around the Huddersfield area. They may sound harmless, but by ignoring the possibility of damage to your roof these usually friendly animals can nibble away at your wires and timber whilst also leaving a foul smell around your property. It is also very difficult to get rid of bats once they have made a home as they are a protected species.

If you require any more information on the importance of issues with your roof or any of the other roofing services that DPR provide then please don’t hesitate to contact us today.

Government consults over starter home drive

New rules have been proposed by the government which will see house builders who are developing a site bigger than 10 homes factor in one starter home per five houses.

Clause 2 shows that the proposal will see new houses deemed as ‘starter homes’ sold with a discount of 20% of the original market value or even lower. This rule is being ushered in to help first time buyers secure their position on the property ladder, and these discounted costs will not be available to anyone over the age of 40.

The special exemption in this case is that injured military personnel and those who lost a partner due to military service will be eligible to purchase a discounted starter home, no matter their age.

To discourage those looking to speculate using these new starter homes a homeowner would only be able to resell the property to another first time buyer for five to eight years after the initial purchase. Official consultation of the proposal starts on the 18th May 2016 and looks to contrast views on the already established Housing and Planning bill.

DPR will look to take this new bill in its stride and are pleased that there are more houses being built in the UK. If you are a new home buyer in the Huddersfield and Yorkshire area and require work on your roof then please do not hesitate to contact our specialist team on.

Construction Sector remains on track to grow in summer 2016

According to the latest statistics released by Barbour ABI, the construction sector is continuing to grow and will have a peak in the summer of 2016, with more building work already scheduled.

February’s stats show that the construction sector is more buoyant than this time last year and that the number of contracts is higher than in January.

The most recent peak was in November last year however the sector is starting to reach similar levels. With the increase in the amount of planned contract work already in the diary as well on a national level, it is expected that around 1300 contracts will be worked on during the spring and summer period each month.

What does this mean?

Well, during the slump a few years ago when the construction sector was at one of its lowest points, there were less than 700 contracts worked on a month so that highlights the positivity right now.

According to the same report, £5.6bn was the total construction contract value of February. Speaking about the statistics, Michael Dall, who is the lead economist for Barbour ABI said: “Overall consensus is that construction activity remains on track to grow, with a solid pipeline building up over the spring and summer months. The industry is still growing at a steady enough pace, but as previously stated, more growth from the infrastructure and commercial & retail sectors would provide a substantial boost.”

Why is this good for DPR?

This positive pipeline of works is great news for DPR. The majority of this construction is within the housebuilding sector as the government looks to build the much needed houses they require by 2020. DPR has contract in place with house builders and housing associations and the more houses that are built allows for DPR to tender for new roof builds, as well as continue to improve roofs on existing houses where funding is also given.

So, as the construction sector continues to pick up, do you require works on a commercial or domestic building where the expertise of a qualified roofer like DPR is needed? If you do, please call us at your earliest convenience.

New Roofing contract begins with Chubb Security

DPR Roofing has recently begun a new roof maintenance and gutter clearance contract with Chubb Security, providers of electronic security and site entry systems.

Over the past few years their building in Huddersfield required roofing maintenance work on a more regular basis, caused by the age of the building, and the company were finding they were calling out roofers on an all-too-frequent basis. As a result, their roofing costs were stacking up and starting to cause issues.

Knowing DPR provide commercial roofing contracts for a range of services, and having seen some of the clients we provide similar services for, DPR were requested to come up with a package that would hopefully reduce their costs and safeguard their roof. This package was to include general roof maintenance and repairs, as well as complete clearance of their gutters at the site a few times each year.

As we mention frequently on our website and to our customers, gutter clearance is very important and the failure to do so leads to many roofing issues, especially when the water has only one way to leave the roof inside the building when gutters are internally sited which is many the case with commercial buildings. You can find more details on other reasons to clear your guttering right here.

The contract agreed will see the team be just a phone call away and Chubb Security have the confidence to continue their works without having the worry of a further failure of their gutters or roof.

If you would like to ensure your building does not fail you and would like to use a qualified professional commercial roofing company in the Yorkshire region, please contact DPR to discuss our contracts. With a great pricing structure, local engineers and a trusted name, DPR can help to ensure your roof does not let your business down.
