Lead theft remains a huge problem
The theft of lead and other metal has become a huge problem in recent years, due to the rising value of metal worldwide and churches are among the most popular targets for thieves. However the crime is a growing problem in Huddersfield with roofs of homes, restaurants and public buildings also being targeted.
In the last year the roofs of several buildings in Huddersfield have been targeted by crooks on the prowl for valuable metal. Several have suffered thousands of pounds damage as thieves have stripped them of copper and lead tiles and flashing.
Police said metal and lead theft from roofs of buildings was an increasing problem across the county. West Yorkshire Police are working to set up Faith Watch schemes across the county to improve security against thieves on the look out for lead, copper, and stone. A police spokeswoman said: “It is important that residents keep their eyes and ears open and report any suspicious behaviour especially around public buildings such as churches and community centres.”

Mr & Mrs Jones of Longwood, Huddersfield called DPR complaining of water coming through their bathroom ceiling. DPR customer not left gutted by repair work
Like many old properties, general wear and tear over time can cause roofs and guttering to deteriorate. Mr Cheetham from Huddersfield noticed that whenever it rained, water consistently ran down the outside of the house walls, causing damp to both his and his neighbours properties. After further inspection, DPR roofing engineers identified that the rear elevation gutter was suffering from severe wet rot decay at its junction with the PVC guttering of the adjoining property. Because the guttering was timber, DPR were required too cut a section out, replace it with a new piece of pre-treated timber guttering and then seal it to the neighbours PVC gutter using a fibreglass system.
Huddersfield Customer not left feeling flat from Garage Roof Repair
Following a night of wet weather Mr Fenton of Huddersfield noticed that their was a lot of damp coming through the back corner of his detached double garage. Because the garage was used for storing many valuable household items, including a fridge and chest freezer, it was important to resolve the flat roof problem as soon as possible. DPR were at hand to remove and dispose of the existing felt roof and replace with a new roofing felt, in quality polyester green mineral. All barge boards and fixing lattes which had to be removed to lay the new felt, then had to be refixed.
Huddersfield Roofs weather the storm
During a night of stormy weather in Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Mr Edwards noticed in the morning that several tiles slates had fallen off the roof onto the lawn. With more bad weather on the way, Mr Edwards was concerned that further storm damage could cause more loose roof tiles and further roof damage. DPR responded quickly, performing an initial site survey to identify the roof problem and then rectifying by replacing several new tiles and sealing them to ensure complete watertightness.
Business as usual for Huddersfield Retailer
When water and damp started to appear in the apartment above Pheonix Enterprises in Huddersfield, the owner was extremely concerned, not least because of the problem itself, but also because of the risk it posed to the shop and its ability to continue trading. Damaged stock or risk to health and safety might mean the shop would have to close, which would have been disastrous for the owners on the run up to Xmas. Following a professional roof survey DPR quickly identified that the roof ridge tiles to the top of the valley needed to be replaced, whilst there were also several slates which needed replacing, re-sealing and waterproofing. The roof problem was rectified with immediate effect.

DPR Complete Roof Repair in Huddersfield
DPR have recently completed the repair of a chimney at a property on Nursery Lane, Alwoodley, Huddersfield. The customer contacted DPR concerned that there was vegetation growing out of the chimney and was worried that the chimney pots were loose. Following a comprehensive site survey, it was evident that the chimney was in need of urgent repair. The project included repairing the chimney mortar base (Re-flaunching) and replacing the roofline with new black PVCu guttering and fascia boards.
Flaunching is the mortar base holding the chimney pot in position on top of the chimney stack. If there are minor cracks in the mortar, these are easily repaired with mastic applied with a gun or pressed into the cracks. If there are more serious cracks evident, then the flaunching should be completely replaced.
